Writing copy tailored to your audience makes a site more usable. What may seem like a cliche to people who have been using the web regularly and for a long time may not seem so to inexperienced or elderly users, some of the largest audiences for this site.

Also, I'm not sure that's a cliche. You should introduce yourself and the site in some way. After all, you say hi to someone when you see them or start a phone call. </description>
